What was your process for the enormous number of paintings you completed for this show? This body of work was an exercise in decision making. 8 designs x 8 prints, screen printed by myself and friend, Haig Demarjian, on paper I had previously painted.
After screen printing, each print received additional treatment with more painting, drawing, etc. I can get bogged down in details that hinder my progress. I set a lofty goal with a finite timeline. It gave me the momentum I needed to streamline the process of preparing the background paintings, and treating the pieces after screen printing.
What do you hope people take away when they see your work? I simply appreciate that anyone takes the time to look.

What is your biggest inspiration while you’re making art at the moment?There are many famous artists whose work I admire, but I've always been inspired by the work of my peers.
Maybe it's a palette choice or a clever composition. Sometimes I adopt my own version of a "trick" that in time, bears little resemblance to the original. Other times, I see a flag planted by an artist friend and I'm inspired to go in a completely different direction.
As a tattooer, do you have different goals or intentions with your non-tattoo work?My tattoos tend to focus on fine details and rendering that is pleasing to the eye. Most people want a clean tattoo that looks nice, and I'm grateful that I can provide that service. I too love a nice, well-done tattoo.
In visual art I appreciate the polar opposite as well: dramatic color choices, expressive gesture, energetic mark making. I like to see the path taken to get to the end point. Half-erased pencil lines, layers over layers that reveal the decisions made by the artist, or a bold crudeness feels jarring.
